Derek Attridge is Professor of English at the University of York. Among his books are Peculiar Language: Literature as Difference from the Renaissance to James Joyce (1988), Joyce Effects: On Language, Theory, and History (2000), and The Singularity of Literature (2004); edited volumes include Post-Structuralist Joyce: Essays from the French (1984), Semicolonial Joyce (2000), and James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’: A Casebook (2004). He has also published books on poetic rhythm and South African writing.
Christopher butler is Professor of English Language and Literature and Student of Christ Church, Oxford. His books include Early Modernism: Literature, Painting, and Music in Europe, 1900–1916 (1994) and Postmodernism: A Very Short Introduction (2002).
